Interesting News (in my opinion)

I have two links as the first I found interesting but I don’t really think relates to media or anyone’s work.

This is about research leading into extending the life of humans. I read another article about it earlier in the week but couldn’t find it again.

This second one is about female presenters complaining about losing their jobs because of their looks.

  1. The first article is not relevant to the media but the second one is. It is very useful to anyone who is looking at feminism and women in the media, it provides good insight of the representation of women in the media.

The second article is important in terms of representation of women – it is shocking to read that some one as high profile as Terry Wogan would say that women such as: Tess Daly etc. have only received the jobs they have due to good looks. This is an important media story because it makes you question why the institutions such as the BBC, chose them in the first place.

Personally, I think it’s because they are good at their job rather than how they look… and who’s to say everyone thinks that they are attractive women?

I think this is a good choice as it presents debate and you could look in to feminist views or the institutional values of the programmes these females represent. You could even look further in to the representation of Terry Wogan here and how he has been represented in this particilar article.

Good choice, I enjoyed reading it. 🙂

I thought your first link was extremely interesting because it could have a dramatic effect on humans, it will be interesting to see what becomes of these findings in the future.
